France and Merrick Scholars Endowment

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students enrolled at UMBC, who are current or former Shriver Living Learning Community Peer Mentors, based on merit and commitment to service-learning and community engagement.

The France and Merrick Scholars Endowment was established in 1996 by the Jacob and Anita France Foundation, Inc. and the Robert G. and Anne M. Merrick Foundation, Inc.

In addition to community engagement through The Shriver Center, Scholars will participate in one of the following committees (meeting times TBD):

  • Alumni Networking: Connect with UMBC France-Merrick Alumni over the last 25+ years to learn what fields and capacities they are working, open the door for collaboration, and inform future programming. Moving forward, this committee will work with UMBC’s Alumni Engagement Office to understand best practices for alumni engagement.
  • Partnership Development: Support the Community Engaged Learning Team (and possibly, more broadly, The Shriver Center) to explore a mapping process of geographic and topical partnerships, as well as identify gaps and opportunities for growth. Participate in the process of contacting and meeting with current and potential partners. The Shriver Center’s Partnership Guide will be central to this group’s work (https://shrivercenter.umbc.edu/partnership/).
  • Marketing & Communication: Collect and share stories of transformation through Community Engaged Learning courses, student leadership, and other community engaged work. This committee will work with Digital Strategy and Digital Content colleagues in the Division of Professional Studies. This committee will participate in the process of reimagining the CEL website (an unpublished site currently exists), to include how to represent this current cohort (and archive past members)
