Meyerhoff Scholars Program

Open for Fall 2027 Incoming Freshmen ONLY

The Meyerhoff Scholars Program has been at the forefront of efforts to increase diversity among future leaders in science, engineering, and related fields. The UMBC Meyerhoff family is now more than 2500 strong with over 2000 alumni across the nation, which includes over 300 students enrolled in graduate and professional programs.

The Program is open to prospective undergraduate students of all backgrounds who plan to pursue doctoral study (PhD or MD-PhD) in the sciences or engineering and who are interested in the advancement of minorities in those fields. The program’s success is built on the premise that, among like-minded students who work closely together, positive energy is contagious. By assembling such a high concentration of high-achieving students in a tightly knit learning community, students continually inspire one another to do more and better. To begin our application process, students should first complete and submit the UMBC CommonApp. Five to seven business days after submission of the CommonApp, applicants will receive UMBC credentials (user name and password) allowing them to access the Meyerhoff Application in UMBC Scholarship Retriever.

Meyerhoff Final Application deadline – January 15 (We strongly encourage submission no later than January 10 to facilitate timely review of your application.)

Examples may include STEM programs, research or independent projects, internships, STEM clubs, presentations, publications, academic or STEM-related awards, leadership roles, community service, job shadowing, employment, or training programs. You do not need to have experience in every area listed above. Include the experiences that are most meaningful and relevant to you. Focus on providing clear, organized, and accurate information rather than creating a highly designed or elaborate resume.
