Paula O. Ashby Scholarship

The Paula O. Ashby Scholarship is named in honor of Ms. Paula Ashby, whose academic career at UMBC spanned over thirty-five years. A proud UMBC alum herself, Paula began her career as an Academic Advisor in the newly created Allied Health Advisement Center. Over the next thirty-five years, Paula continued to work in and around undergraduate advising and became a specialist in health professions advising. One of Paula’s greatest rewards was helping her students reach their goals from Orientation through graduation. She was as proud as any parent when she saw her students excelling in their careers. Paula truly believed that with hard work, determination and guidance from their advisors, all UMBC students could succeed. Paula retired from UMBC in 2016. She left a legacy of perseverance, love and laughter. We hope the scholarship recipient will also have these qualities.
